Why Hot Food is Healthier

For the past 10… 20… probably 30+ years, everyone  has simply “accepted” the fact that cold foods are better for you.  Of course it makes sense that if fruits and vegetables are good for you, then cold or raw foods should be what's best.  Sounds logical, right?

This has been a go to assumption for literally decades. People have sworn by it.

But what if it were all a big myth?

I’m here to tell you that it is.

Here’s 5 reasons why eating a Hot meal is actually better for you.

1.  Hot food is more easily digested, yielding greater nutrients to the body.
According to a 2003 study by H. Englyst & S. Kingman, some foods are resistant to being broken down when consumed raw but were rendered rapidly digestible by all conventional cooking techniques.

2. Warm foods boosts metabolism
Cold foods have a detrimental effect on digestive system and slow down metabolism. This hinders weight loss. For people concerned with their weight or with weight loss hot food is the way to go.

Eating warm food often brings more satisfaction than cold food.  The thermogenic (warming) effect slightly increases the temperature in your brain, so you feel satisfied and happy with your meal sooner.  Again, this is beneficial to those concerned with their weight or weight loss.

3.  Warm food tastes better.
A 2011 study by Ori Hofmekler demonstrates that more of the flavonoids, indoles, and other phytonutrients bound to the fiber of many veggies and fruits are released and can be better absorbed when they’re cooked.  In other words, they taste better.

4.  Helps avoid allergens
The foods most commonly associated with allergic reactions in children are: milk, egg, wheat, soy, peanut, tree nuts, fish and shellfish.  Some of which are sufficiently changed by heating as to no longer cause an allergic reaction.

5.  Overall improved health
The benefits of healthy eating include increased mental acuteness, resistance to illness and disease, higher energy levels, a more robust immune system, faster recuperation times, and better management of chronic health problems.
